OMAX Cinema was originally established in 2044 BS (1987 AD) as the historic standalone single screen Om Chalachitra Mandir (ओम चलचित्र मन्दिर). To meet the demands of modern cinema, the theater underwent complete structural digitization and acoustic modernization, officially re-opening under the name OMAX Cinema on June 1, 2012 (celebrated with the grand premiere screening of the Hindi action blockbuster Rowdy Rathore).

Golden Era of the 1980s & 1990s:

Constructed in the 1980s, Palpasa Hall was the most famous cultural and civic landmark in Hetauda for 35mm celluloid film screenings, live theatrical stage dramas, musical performances, and municipal assemblies. For decades, it was the central gathering point where Makwanpur residents watched legendary Nepali and Indian cinema on massive analog film reels.

Transition & Present Day:

As modern digital projection formats and multiplexes made standalone 35mm celluloid projection operations non-viable, commercial film screenings were gradually discontinued. The property was taken over and managed under the Makwanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) / Palpasa Sadan Trust and repurposed into Palpasa Venue & Seminar Hall.

Today, the iconic hall no longer screens commercial movies; instead, it serves as a premier venue for district conventions, trade symposiums, wedding receptions, political forums, and cultural celebrations.

Located along Cinema Road (connecting directly to Sangam Chowk) in Ward 4, Devi Cinema Hall is one of the earliest purpose-built movie theaters in the history of Makwanpur.

The Hall That Named a Road:

Devi Cinema was so influential during the peak single-screen era from the 1970s through the late 1990s that the entire thoroughfare was officially named 'Cinema Road', a title it proudly retains today. Generations of Hetauda movie-lovers queued outside its vintage ticket windows to watch classic Bollywood, Kollywood, and early Nepali feature films.

Transition & Present Day:

With the decline of standalone single-screen halls in the 2000s and the transition toward digital formats, Devi Cinema ceased commercial film screenings. The historic structure was gradually dismantled and redeveloped for mixed commercial and retail usage. However, the intersection connecting toward Sangam Chowk is still universally referred to by locals as 'Devi Cinema Chowk' or 'Cinema Road', serving as a living testament to Hetauda’s rich cinematic heritage.
